What the evaluation assesses
A return-to-work evaluation reviews your recovery status and current physical abilities, then compares those findings to the demands of your job. The visit centers on a clinical review of symptoms and medical history, a focused physical exam, and a conversation about the specific tasks you must perform at work.
Decision-making focuses on functional capacity rather than an abstract timeline. Clinicians weigh your healing, pain levels, and any limitations against essential job tasks — lifting, standing, or repetitive motion — to form an evidence-based opinion about readiness for work.
How decisions are reached
The evaluation results in one of three practical outcomes: cleared for full duties, cleared for modified duties, or advised additional recovery time. That determination follows a measured assessment of what you can safely do now and which tasks present risks if performed before full healing.
When employers request medical clearance, we provide clinical documentation reflecting our findings and recommendations. This documentation is written to help employers make duty assignments while respecting patient privacy and the medical judgment provided during the visit.
Preparing for the visit
Bring any recent medical records, operative notes, imaging results, or a treating provider’s instructions if available, plus a concise job description or list of the physical tasks your role requires. Clear, specific information about daily job duties helps clinicians align medical findings with workplace expectations.
